Minaret Lake - Thunderstorm Question

Wilderness

Good morning! Super pumped to backpack Minaret Lake for the first time soon - it'll be our first time in the Sierra Nevadas. I know it's common in late summer, but I'm seeing some thunderstorms forecast on the NOAA website (40-50% chance) during the day when we would be hiking up to the lake.

I was curious to know, if we happen to run into a thunderstorm on the way, is it better to hunker down and wait for it to pass before going up to higher elevation? Or is it better to hike early enough that we arrive before the thunderstorms arrive (theoretically) and set up camp before said thunderstorms arrive? I know Minaret is about 9,800 feet, so wanted to hear what other folks have done or would recommend!

We're really excited to have the chance to backpack here and don't really want to cancel because of thunderstorms (which I know are common), but absolutely want to do it safely and responsibly!
