The Tale of A Being

Short Story

A long time ago, in a far off land, there lived many beings.

Every being was unique, a product of the thoughts and dreams of reality.

The land, known as ImaginationLand, was the home of all desires, hopes, nightmares, and fears.

One day, a being came into existence out of the ether.

The being could not be described, written down, seen.

A being that existed, but could never be proven to have existed.

Denizens of nearby villages came to its imagining, an event where the beings of this land are created.

Families gathered, hoping to see another like them to take care of.

When the being stepped out into the town center, it was strange.

Everyone knew there was someone there, but no one could truly identify them.

"What is your name, being?" Many called out, but the creature could not make a sound.

The creature has no name, no identity, no reality.

People became confused, wondering whether the creature had even truly existed.

But it did. It felt itself watching the crowd's confusion despite having no eyes.

It could imagine itself hearing the words they said, despite having no ears.

Even the creature couldn't figure out if it existed or not.

It could think, it had a conscience. But it had no physical being.

"How was I created if I'm not even here? Was I even created?" The creature thought.

One being from the crowd burst through and pointed directly to the creature.

An old lizard, blind, crocodile-like in build.

Grey hairs, wisdom ran through his wrinkles and face.

"You exist." The old lizard cried. "The creature exists. I can see it, despite being blind."

Many thought the lizard was kooky and left the scene, the being never left though.

The old lizard stared at the creature, the only one who could tell it existed.

"Come with me, creature." The old lizard remarked.

So, the creature lived happily ever after with the lizard.
