How do I know if HRT will actually make me feel better?

So, my story is kind of weird. I didn’t have many experiences in childhood that suggested to me or anybody else that I was trans. I never questioned my role as a boy, and I did boyish things like wrestling and roughhousing and exploring the woods behind my house. I was 16 when I first started actually thinking about my gender identity and realizing that I wanted to dress like a girl. It’s been six years since then, and my thoughts about wanting to be a girl have only intensified, but at the same time I’ve been constantly battling impostor syndrome telling me I’m not really trans because I didn’t have the typical trans childhood experiences. So for a while I was actually grateful anytime I felt gender dysphoria, because it reaffirmed to me that I actually was trans and I wasn’t just making these feelings up. But I spent so long trying to figure out if I was trans in the first place, that I didn’t really stop to think about exactly what that would mean for me. But as of a few weeks ago since I finally came to the absolute conclusion that I really am trans, gender dysphoria has stopped feeling productive or reassuring, and now it just hurts. Very badly. I’m meeting with an endocrinologist in a few months to discuss HRT, but my body image has gotten so much worse while I’ve been waiting that I’m starting to worry that HRT may not even help. I can have breasts and feminine fat distribution but I’m always going to be taller and broader-chested than most cis girls, and I don’t know how to cope with that knowledge. It’s extremely distressing if I have to dress like a male, so I know gender expression is helping, but I just worry that gender expression + HRT still won’t be enough to make me feel like I’m actually the person I was supposed to be. Did anybody have feelings like this prior to starting HRT? And if so, how much did HRT end up helping? Thanks in advance for the help.
