What are your experiences traveling to an earlier Time Zone? Any tips for someone going -6 hours back?
I'm flying to Europe next week and my sleep schedule at home is a mess even for a 9-5 work schedule. Today I woke up naturally around noon (Eastern Time) after a regular Friday workday where I was already sleep deprived from the previous 4 days, but still took to 3:30AM to knock myself out. Thats the equivalent of waking up at 6pm there and when my cousin who is going to be picking us up said they'll get us from the hotel at 8am the next morning I was internally shocked and hoping that it is a do-able hour. That would mean I need to be going to bed at 4PM and waking up at midnight, not starting to think about going to bed around midnight.
In the past I would use the travel time to stay up for 24-30 hours and then crash out with melatonin around their sleep time to try and adjust. I would still have issues the entire trip trying to fall asleep before midnight. I'm trying to do the math and I think I practically have to start going to bed ~12 hours before I actually fall asleep, so around 3pm in order for me to be functional there. Ahhh!
Curious what has worked for others, or just doesn't work...
Staying up for 30 hours and then crashing out with melatonin at their night time?
Pre-shifting bedtime? I would have to start going to bed at 3pm when that's the time I start to get mentally acute rather than brain fogged.
Do you just do the trip as a zombie with loads of stimulants?
