[Qcrit] YA, Contemporary Fantasy - A DOG'S DREAM AND A BROKEN PROPHECY (Attempt 1)

Twenty-something Jeff is insecure, thoughtless, and a bit of a wreck, but he has one saving grace: his dog, Lily. Lily is the wild-hearted pup who once saved him from his abusive father, stayed by his side when his friends abandoned him, and acts as his emotional anchor. Jeff is also plagued by "dream spills"—brief blackouts where he lives entire lifetimes as a ghost, a tree, or the echo of a forgotten god. No matter what strange form he takes in these cosmic dreams, Lily is always right there with him, providing an unshakeable comfort he can never quite explain.

That is, until a group of entitled, drunken spirits crash his mediocre life to announce he is the subject of an ancient prophecy. Jeff blows them off. The spirits, however, are persistent. After casually renaming him because they find his name inconvenient, they force him and Lily through a series of lethal trials. His reward for surviving? An ostentatious knife capable of stopping time. Tasked with using the blade to balance cosmic evil and protect "the Weave" of reality, Jeff infiltrates billionaire playgrounds—from a mutant-hunting desert biodome pyramid to a luxury space station. But alongside Lily and Jack, a rigid espionage specialist, Jeff begins to question the spirits' tyrannical methods.

When an exiled villain appears claiming the prophecy is a lie, Jeff struggles to know what is right—until the spirits cruelly engineer his best friend's suicide to force Jeff into becoming the hero they need. Broken and furious, Jeff gives up on the world. He hands over the time-knife, so he can undo his friend's death. The villain uses the knife to shatter the universe, sending reality dissolving into nothingness. As he and Lily plummet through the cracks of existence, Jeff finally realizes his "dream spills" were actually him and Lily falling through time together across lifetimes. To save a dissolving reality, the loyal dog who saved him in boyhood must make the ultimate sacrifice and become the universe's new foundation.
