2% CB plus 3% BT = 1% net?

So it appears as though most balance transfer cards have a 3% fee, basically front loading a tiny amount of interest. However, other cards offer 2% cash back on everything like my Fidelity card. Could I first make a purchase with the Fidelity card and then balance transfer that to get a 1% net fee? If so, that would be incredible.
