Future Flight Credit produced from existing reservation

Recently changed a flight on a reservation I plan to take, and the reservation resulted in a FFC. Is that FFC still “attached” to the existing reservation in any way, or can I go ahead and book a flight with it before the departure date of the original reservation? If I change the original flight to yet another cheaper flight, will that produce a separate, new FFC?
