I don’t understand this whole Caspian situation.

Discussion

I saw the map, and the division of the Caspian Sea seems completely logical to me. Everyone gets the waters extending from their coastline, and Iran also gets a perfectly decent share out of it.

But now I see Pahlavi supporters saying that half of it should belong to Iran?! Because of some old treaty between the Soviet Union?!

It’s honestly hilarious. Even Russia (or the former Soviet Union) itself gets the smallest share, and that’s from areas that are very shallow and have little potential. Yet I don’t see Russians making a fuss about this.

Now the independent countries want to have their own waters, which seems logical, but Pahlavi supporters, with their imperialist mindset, still want to keep half of the sea, which makes absolutely no sense. The treaty with the Soviet Union no longer exists. The Soviet Union divided it because those countries were part of it, but now that they’re independent, it makes sense to divide it properly.

So someone please explain to me what the hell this whole mess is about?!
