I hate Go Set a Watchman by Harper Lee

I recently borrowed the book from a library, and istg I hate it so much. It's a complete 180 of To Kill a Mockingbird, and half of the central characters like Cal, Ms Maudie, Jem, and Dill are completely forgotten about.

My biggest complaint and heartbreak is Atticus Finch. I genuinely adored him in To Kill a Mockingbird because he reminded me of my own father, whom I lost when I was young, so I was quite attached to his character. On top of that, his parenting styles, social views, and everything about him were a breath of fresh air in the novel, and I loved that so much. But that is completely ruined in Go Set a Watchman. He becomes a racist asshole who goes against all of his central beliefs from the first book, and he isn't even a good father figure anymore. I kid you not, when I read that chapter I cried so hard I couldn't even breathe properly for a hot minute.

Secondly, Jem's death is just rushed. He was a very central role in Scout's childhood, so his death to be so overlooked in the novel is just wild to me. imo, his death would have a significant impact on Scout, and she would be talking about it quite often. Instead, he just dies, and nobody bats an eyelid.

Next, Dill is completely forgotten about and is replaced by a wannabe-Jem-Finch who is lowk a misogynist. Dill was Scout's childhood best friend, so for her to not even mention him once is crazy.

To Kill a Mockingbird should have been left as it was, without having that stupid worthless excuse of a novel disgrace it as a sequel.

Lmk what yall think about the book. Also, please note that this is my opinion of the book, so don't try to doxx me bc of it πŸ™
