How do you break the bond?
I really need some outside opinions because I feel like I'm losing my sense of reality.
My relationship has a cycle where he becomes affectionate and nice for a few days/a week, and then suddenly becomes cold, angry and lashes out at me. Tonight I tried to talk to him because I could feel him pulling away. He told me I "won't shut up," that I'm the reason he gets angry, that I'm the problem in the relationship and that I need psychological help because I have "lots of issues."
He kept insisting he's completely normal and that I'm crazy for questioning why his behaviour changed. He blamed me for basically every problem and said his ex never had these issues with him, so clearly I'm the problem.
I was trying to get him to stay so we could talk things through, like I always do. I never yell at him or anything. I'm basically just there trying to explain myself, understand what's happening, and find some kind of resolution. The more I try to communicate and resolve things, the more upset and angry he seems to become. He said he was disgusted by me and told me I deserve to be beaten. He was so enraged that I genuinely felt like he wanted to hit me and was controlling himself not to.
I keep going back hoping the affectionate version of him will come back and sometimes even start doubting my own perception and think that maybe he's right and I'm the one causing all the problems :S
Does this sound like an abusive/narcissistic cycle to you? And for those who managed to leave a relationship like this, how did you actually break the attachment?
