Prerelease question

I went to my first prerelease event ever excited to draft and compete in the prerelease tourney with my twin brother this last Saturday.
We showed up to our local LGS and downloaded the magic companion app and signed in and payed and the shop told us that we were the first of the night to show up and to wait for more people to arrive before they would give us our prerelease kit.

We waited for about 30-45 minutes before going back to the front counter and it turns out that no one else had shown up besides us two so the shop apologized and gave us our kits to just open for fun and then me and my brother left slightly disappointed that we didn’t get to do an actual draft but not the shops fault.

However, after we left the companion app pinged and told us our final placement positions were finalized so we went into the app and the store had added random named accounts into the draft alongside my brother and I’s names and given us all random win and losses number and gave me and my brother 4 and 6th place and I was just curious as to why they did that and pretended that a draft happened and gave us random placements instead of just canceling it?
