The solar plexus punch is actually just a liver punch.

    DISCUSSION

Its one of the most common, uncontested myths that punching right below the sternum compresses a bundle of nerves called the solar plexus, thus causing the pain. What is actually happening is that a punc here hits the liver, which painsignals travel through the solar plexus. So it is not compressing the nerves there that is causing the pain, it is just a liver punch. That means that a sufficiently hard strike to this area could cause liver injury and a hard punch there is thus not necessarily harmless.
