What's up with the new name for Turkey?

I get that this is the way the people in turkey name their own nation but...so what?

What I mean is, literally since nations existed, every culture has had a name for every country in their own language. As far as I know there has never been a country that ever expected everyone in every language to use the same name for it. Why does turkey think that it's special and why did apparently the UN agree that yes you're special, the English language isn't allowed to have its own word for your country?

Is there any precedent to this?
