Two Adolf von Harnack Marcion works now in complete English — including the Apostolikon/Evangelion reconstructions that have never been translated
If you work on Marcion, Paul, or early canon formation, you probably know Adolf von Harnack’s Marcion: Das Evangelium vom fremden Gott (1921). What most English readers have not had access to are two of Harnack’s most important companion works: his complete textual reconstruction of Marcion’s New Testament and his 1923 response to the critics of his Marcion study. Over the past year we’ve translated both directly from the 1921 and 1923 first editions, verifying them page by page against high-resolution scans, and made them available free.
Book 1 — Adolf von Harnack’s Reconstructed Marcionite New Testament

It includes:
- The complete reconstructed Apostolikon
- The ten Marcionite Pauline Prologues (Latin and English)
- The complete reconstructed Evangelion
- Harnack’s introductions and concluding investigations
- His full critical apparatus, including Greek and Latin citations, patristic witnesses, manuscript sigla, and textual notes
Book 2 — New Studies on Marcion(1923)
This volume is the first complete English translation of Harnack’s Neue Studien zu Marcion, his extended reply to critics such as von Soden, Bauer, and others following publication of his landmark Marcion study.
It includes:

Why this matters
Most English readers know Bruce’s 1924 translation of Harnack’s principal study. However, the reconstruction appendices and the 1923 follow-up volume—the very works regularly cited by scholars such as BeDuhn, Roth, and Klinghardt—have remained inaccessible to most English readers.
If you’ve ever followed a citation to Beilage III, Beilage IV, or Neue Studien zu Marcion only to encounter untranslated German, these volumes are intended to remove that barrier.
The translations were produced directly from high-resolution scans of the original 1921 and 1923 editions, with page-by-page verification rather than relying on OCR alone.
Both books are available free in PDF.
These publications are FREE and part of the True Testament Reconstruction Project.
