virgin hair dye

if a hair dye says it’s made for virgin hair does that mean i can’t do a second round? my hair is quite dark and i want to do highlights in my hair without bleach. im assuming the colour will end up looking orange because my hair is so dark so i would need to do another round but would that mean the dye would stop working since i would’ve already done one round?
