will under/overclocking help prevent a game from crashing?

Help Request - GPU

hi! i’ve been trying to play a game recently but every time i try to open the game it crashes immediately. i submitted a ticket with their support and one of the things they’ve suggested is under/overclocking my graphic card.

“If that doesn't help, it may be worth trying to Under/Overclock your graphics card. We'd recommend trying to use MSI Afterburner for this, as it's a great tool to do it on Nvidia cards.

Download and install it, and it'll let you change the clock speed of your card. I would work downwards first, trying to reduce the clock speed by 50 Hz increments.”

the recommended gpu for the game is a 1070, and i have a 4090, so i wouldn’t think the graphic card would be an issue, especially considering it used to run just fine on my old pc which had a lower spec gpu, but i don’t know a whole lot about computers so i could be wrong.

i’ve also never under/overclocked any part of my computer before and honestly i’m worried that i’m going to break my pc somehow, so i just wanted to check that this might actually make a difference before i give it a go. plus, it sounds like they want me to try underclocking it first - would that make other games/software run slower/more poorly?

any information or insights would be greatly appreciated, thank you!!
