Rh- bloodtype mothers and Rhogam/Anti-D shot?
I’m coming up to this appointment in a couple weeks and despite my research and questions to my doctor and gyno, I still feel under-informed and under pressure. Rushed through explanations and threatened with disaster.
I want to give informed consent, but I am just not there. I want to make the right choice for me and my child and not a snap decision under duress. So far, the information is incredibly fear-based… and it’s working on me! I have the prescription. Appointment is booked.
But I am not feeling confident for some reason.
I can understand the antibodies situation and treatment itself, but I am struggling to understand this on an existential/human level. How can this be? A mother’s body killing off her own child because of incompatible bloodtypes? My doctors cannot answer outside of their medical knowledge. They simply shrug and say “it’s a bit mystical”.
I feel the information I am getting is one-sided and I am not hearing enough counterarguments/cons to getting the treatment. And like everything with science and medicine and life, there cannot only be one truth/one-size-fits-all conclusion.
The closest information I am finding on rejecting the shot comes from a religious basis, which is absolutely fine, but I would like more than that.
I guess I’m hoping to hear personal stories.
Any information and perspective from experience is welcome! I’m not looking for medical advice as that is very individualised, just looking for real stories.
Please be kind/don’t attack me for seeking more knowledge. I am trying to gather as much information and understanding as possible. I am not an anti-anything.
I understand this is not a vaccine and I am not against those anyway.
I’ve heard and read PLENTY on the pros for getting the shot and medical explanations for the intervention. Now I think it’s only right to hear from the other side…
Is there anyone here who rejected the Rhogam/anti-D? And if so, what was the outcome for your birth, your child, future pregnancies and children?
Any success stories or arguments for not needing the shot?
