adjust item speed in water stream

Help

Hi, I have currently a problem where i need to transport my items. The screenshot is pretty self-explanatory, but i can add some details.

Currently, i tried two fence gates but the item is too slow, and is stucked just before the next water stream as you can see.

The thing is, if i break the left fence gate, the item has too much speed and fall under the chain in front of it.

I dont want to use ice or modify the bigger structure, and i wonder if it was possible without ? I dont have any solutions to this.
