I’m confused by my friend’s behavior
I think this is probably a silly question, but I’m genuinely confused and would like some outside perspectives.
I have a really good friend, and we’re both males, he’s soon to be 27 and I’m 21. He’s a very friendly and affectionate person in general, so I know that some of this could just be his personality.
He tells me things like “I miss you” when I’m traveling, and he usually tells me “I love you.” He also buys me gifts from time to time, and we’re pretty close.
There was also a time when he made the 🫶 hand gesture toward me, and I didn’t do it back because I couldn’t in that moment. He noticed and asked me why I didn’t do it. I told him I just couldn’t at that moment, apologized, and said I would do it next time. He said, “Please.” It was a small interaction, but I remember it because he seemed to genuinely want me to reciprocate the affection.
What confuses me is his behavior on social media.
He basically never likes or engages with my stories, and about a month ago I posted a picture that he didn’t like either. I didn't really think much of it at first, but then I noticed that he liked a picture posted by another friend of ours around the same time. We also text and share reels though ig almost everyday which is why I also find his behavior weird.
That’s what made me wonder about it. I would think that if we’re close, he would at least occasionally like or engage with my posts. I know this might sound silly because a social media like doesn't necessarily mean anything, and I’m not trying to keep score. I just personally tend to support my friends and like their posts, so seeing that he does engage with other people's posts but seemingly never with mine made me wonder if there’s a reason.
I also know he’s a very friendly person in general, so I’m not necessarily assuming his affection toward me means anything beyond friendship. I’m just confused by the combination of how affectionate he is with me personally while seemingly not engaging with me at all on social media.
Is this something you would find odd if you were in my position, or am I reading way too much into a like?
