considering rehoming after only 2 weeks..

Puppy Blues

my boyfriend and i got a puppy about two weeks ago. he will be 10 weeks old on wednesday.

i no longer think i even want to raise this dog because he is genuinely driving me insane. he is an australian cattle dog that we adopted from a shelter in michigan. he is precious, very intelligent, can be very sweet, but he is A LOT at times.

i wanted a dog to have as a companion and so i didn’t feel so lonely when my boyfriend is gone at work, he works and i mostly stay home with the puppy.

banjo is a biter, yes that comes with having a puppy but ive raised puppies before and they’ve never been as bad as this. he bites EVERYWHERE. he literally just bit my boyfriend in the eye last night, and today i was woken up by a bite to the nose and then the throat! we’ve been dealing with the biting since we got him and puppy teeth are incredibly painful.

today was my last straw, we haven’t been able to potty train outside because he is not fully vaccinated yet so we have him trained to go potty on the pads. i would say he does good with that about 60% of the time. today, after his first nap from 9-10 he woke up an hour early and he has a tendency to not get enough sleep even with enforced naps (it’s a lucky day if he sleeps for 90 minutes at a time). he usually plays for 45-60 minutes and then sleep for 60 minutes. i am tired of his constant biting by the end of the night so im trying to extend how long he naps, and of course after five minutes of whining he decided to pee all over his cooling pad in the kennel. he has NEVER peed or pooped in the kennel before and i felt rage that i havent felt in a long time.

usually if he wants water, he will whine in the kennel. if he has to pee, he will whine AND bark, and overall just act crazy until we let him out (after a break in the crying). he was just whining so i told him “no lay down”. after MAYBE five minutes, he peed on his cooling pad and i let him out and then absolutely lost it. i was violently sobbing while he was behind the baby gate in our kitchen. i have been sobbing for the last hour now because he has now peed on the cooling pad in his kennel, then he peed on his bed in the kitchen, THEN he peed on the carpet immediately when i let him out of the kitchen!!!

i don’t know if im experiencing puppy blues or what, but im seriously considering either having him rehomed or just leaving my boyfriend because i am so over it. im exhausted, i get 5-6 hours of sleep a night, if that, im constantly cleaning up pee and poop by myself because im the only one here 75% of the time, my apartment that smelled fresh and clean when we moved in now smells like sweat, pee, and poop, i hardly have time to do anything for myself, and i feel like a prisoner in my own home because i can’t even go for a walk.

he’s partially kennel trained, he sleeps in there for enforced naps and does great at bedtime. we haven’t left him alone yet because when we try to leave him alone in his crate he cries. it’s not obnoxious crying for the most part, but sometimes he can be VERY loud. we’ve taught him sit, come, and high five. he’s highly intelligent. i just don’t know if i have the patience + strength to continue doing this. i have more than enough time to raise a puppy and like ive said, i have done it before, but he’s exceptionally difficult and i can feel my mental health spiraling out of control because im locked inside almost 24/7.

im just having a really hard time and i don’t even know what to do.
