[Online][5e 2014 and 2024] [CST] [18+] [LGBTQ+ friendly] [Homebrew Setting] Of Embersteel and Enchanted Shadows (starting level 6)
⚙️✨ Calling All Adventurers! ✨⚙️
Two nations stand on the edge of war.
To the west, the Empire of Reshyrann has embraced industry, steam power, firearms, mechanical creations, and increasingly advanced technology. Across the mountains lies the Kingdom of Marial, a land shaped by powerful magic, ancient traditions, enchanted defenses, and mystical creatures.
For years, the two nations have existed in an uneasy cold war. Neither side claims to want open conflict, but neither trusts the other enough to stop preparing for it. Every new Reshyrann weapon convinces Marial that an invasion may be coming, while every new Marial defense convinces Reshyrann that an attack is being prepared. Soldiers are moving toward the borders, magical defenses are strengthening, factories work through the night, and fear is spreading among the people caught between them.
Behind it all, nobles, military officers, merchants, adventurers, diplomats, industrialists, and political factions each have their own ideas about what should happen next.
I'm currently looking for 3 players to join an already ongoing Level 6 Dungeons & Dragons 5e campaign set in this homebrew world. You'll be joining a group of established adventurers who have recently earned Gold Rank within the Adventurers' Guild and are beginning to find themselves drawn into conflicts much larger than ordinary adventuring contracts.
Expect a campaign filled with exploration, political intrigue, faction conflicts, mysteries, dangerous enemies, character-driven stories, and choices that can have lasting consequences for the world. If you're looking for a campaign where there isn't always an obvious right answer, where different factions have understandable motivations, and where your choices can determine whether nations become allies or enemies, this campaign might be for you.
Campaign Details
The continent of A'cerin is changing. The Empire of Reshyrann and the Kingdom of Marial have spent years watching one another across the mountains separating their nations. Reshyrann fears Marial's powerful magic, guardian creatures, and control over the mountain passes, while Marial fears Reshyrann's growing factories, firearms, mechanical armies, and increasingly sophisticated anti-magic technology.
Both nations believe they are preparing to defend themselves. The problem is that every defensive measure taken by one side appears threatening to the other. Military forces are beginning to move, political rhetoric is becoming increasingly hostile, border communities are growing nervous, and trade is becoming strained. Powerful people on both sides are beginning to ask whether war is becoming inevitable.
The adventurers have already become involved. After recently saving the city of Gordia from a demonic cult, the party earned promotion to Gold Rank, granting them greater recognition, political access, and permission to take on more sensitive assignments.
Their next destination is Pladena, the industrial capital of Reshyrann, where nobles, military leaders, industrialists, adventurers, diplomats, and representatives from both nations are gathering for an enormous imperial masquerade. Officially, the event is a celebration of continued peace. Behind the masks, however, everyone has something to gain, something to lose, or something they are afraid of.
The party has been tasked with discovering what both nations are preparing to do and whether anyone still believes peace is possible.
Current Level: 6
Players Needed: 3
System: Dungeons & Dragons 5e
Game Time: 6:00 PM CST
Game Day: [DAY]
Campaign Status: Already Ongoing
Setting: Fully Homebrew
The campaign is intended to be a long-term, story-driven game featuring roleplay, exploration, political intrigue, faction relationships, investigation, tactical combat, and character-driven stories.
You'll be joining an established adventuring party shortly after they've reached Gold Rank. You do not need to have a finished character before joining, and you will not be expected to know all of the existing campaign lore ahead of time. I'll make sure new players are caught up on the important events, nations, factions, NPCs, and information their characters would reasonably know.
I'd also prefer to talk with you about your character before you build the entire sheet so we can make sure they fit naturally into the world and current story. Your character doesn't need to share the same opinions or loyalties as everyone else in the party, either. Different characters may sympathize with different nations, factions, or political positions, and those differences are welcome as long as everyone remembers that we're playing collaboratively and character disagreements remain character disagreements.
What Kind of Campaign Is This?
Embersteel and Enchanted Shadows is heavily focused on the conflict between magic and technology, but neither side is presented as inherently good or evil. Reshyrann's technological advancement has improved countless lives, but it has also produced weapons capable of threatening powerful magic. Marial's magic has protected its people for generations, but its increasingly powerful defenses can look terrifying to anyone standing on the other side of the border.
Throughout the campaign, you'll encounter factions with competing beliefs and motivations. Some genuinely want peace, while others believe military strength is the only thing preserving it. Some are motivated by fear, others by loyalty, ambition, survival, or opportunity. Sometimes the people your characters disagree with may still have understandable reasons for believing what they do.
Players will have opportunities to investigate these groups, build relationships with them, oppose them, negotiate with them, form alliances, or potentially influence what those factions become. Combat is absolutely part of the campaign, but drawing a sword won't always be the easiest or best solution.
What I'm Looking For
More than anything, I'm looking for players who enjoy collaborative D&D. You don't need to be an expert roleplayer, have encyclopedic knowledge of 5e, or have experience with political or faction-heavy campaigns. Newer players are welcome.
What matters more is being willing to participate, communicate, share the spotlight, and work with the rest of the table. I'm looking for players who enjoy becoming invested in their characters and the world around them rather than treating the game as Player vs. DM.
Characters can argue, disagree, and support different factions. The people playing them should still be working together to make the game enjoyable for everyone. Because this is an ongoing campaign, consistency is also important. Life obviously happens, but I'm looking for people who can generally make the scheduled sessions and want to become part of a longer-running story.
About Your DM
Hey everyone! I'm 32 years old and I've been running tabletop RPGs for about 11 years. Over that time, I've learned that my favorite part of D&D isn't just combat or loot. It's building memorable stories alongside my players.
I prefer narrative-driven campaigns where your character's choices, goals, relationships, and backstory can have a meaningful impact on the world. I enjoy taking the things players give me and weaving them into the larger campaign, whether that's family members, rivals, personal goals, organizations, hometowns, or something unexpected that develops naturally during play.
That doesn't mean there won't be challenging fights. There absolutely will be. Expect tactical encounters, dangerous enemies, and moments where teamwork matters. You'll also spend time investigating mysteries, exploring new places, interacting with factions, talking with important NPCs, navigating political situations, and deciding what your characters actually believe is worth fighting for.
My goal is to create a collaborative table where everyone has opportunities to shine, creativity is rewarded, roleplay is encouraged, and the decisions the party makes genuinely affect what happens next.

You do not need to have a completed character sheet before contacting me. I'd rather talk with you first and then help work your character into the setting and existing party.
The gears of war have begun to turn.
Whether they can be stopped—or whether A'cerin will be consumed by the conflict between magic and machine—may depend on what the party does next.
