Have just been ripping up the carpet in one of the upstairs bedrooms, probably the first time we’ve been in there in about 8 months as it’s just been a storage space.

When we got the keys this room was an ugly shade of green, so I just went over with some white and noticed that the corner where the exterior wall (right hand side with window) meets the interior wall (left hand side) was a bit tricky to get paint to stick to it - but I thought that was just because it was cheap paint.

Flash forward to today, after giving the floorboards a quick hoover, I look up and notice this orange brown stain. Has to be water, most likely a leak from above, I’m not sure about the attic space and if it goes that far (attic entrance is all sealed up) but with the amount of cracks in the walls as well as going along the top of the trim, I don’t even know where to go with this. You can see the crack going down the corner, and where I struggled to cover the green with the paint - is this due to it being ‘fixed up’ before and maybe something wasn’t allowing the paint to ‘stick’?

Any ideas on what we’re looking at, cost wise, what to do, where we go from here?

Okay folks, how screwed are we?
