can i still sit w my friends in the reserved section?

i am an incoming freshman, i got unlucky and got no football tickets. but i found someone who sold me a full season reserved ticket package thankfully. my friends all requested to sit together, and ive heard things like if the ticket i purchased doesnt end up being in the same section as them, i cant sit with them. and i missed the request to sit with friends deadline so im worried ill have spent these money on tickets just to end up sitting alone :(. how does the environment of the reserved section work? can i still find a way to sit with them? do the sections not really matter?
