My jewelry always tarnishes within weeks, what will finally last?

Everything I buy in the $30 range looks wrong within a month. Last necklace went dull and a bit grey right at the clasp, a ring I wore most of last summer left a faint mark on my finger, which was new and not great.

I am not showering in them, not wearing them to clean, nothing unusual. And I am not after anything fancy either, just two or three basics I can put on and stop thinking about

Is there jewelry that doesn't tarnish anywhere near this price, or is the real answer that I save up and own two solid gold pieces? Has anything you bought made it past a year?
