Why is the Annovera ring so expensive?

It genuinely seems like the perfect birth control for me, as someone who has a hard time consistently picking up medicine from my pharmacy, and consistency when it comes to using medicines of sorts due to disability. When I was about to go on the nuvaring, my doctor and I got excited seeing it as an option, and when both of us saw its out of pocket price, her and I looked at each other and just were shocked! She was the first person to say that it was ridiculous, and I nodded. Its $2000 cad out of pocket! The nuvaring is $30-$40 per month, and in my case $31. Super disappointing to see. I wish more accessible options like this were as financially accessible as they are disability accessible.
