How often do people change their schedules?

I'm going into my 2nd year and and I was wondering if anyone could share their experience with switching class sections at main campus. The section/time I would prefer is currently full, so I would have to wait for a spot to open up before I can register in it. Should I get my hopes up, or is it better to expect that the section will likely stay full?
