Musician wants to text with me?????

I follow this Australian musician on Insta. He is mid-level famous, but getting better known in the US. I've been to one of his amazing shows. He contacted me 2 nights ago when I was on Insta to chat a bit-then asked if I used the Wire App. His sound engineer told me he sometimes like to "chat" with fans. I downloaded the Wire app and have been getting intermittent texts from "him." They're a little odd sometimes, but he is a partier and I'm sure high at or after shows...so that could be legit. But WHY would he want to text with me? He said he likes to keep in touch with the real world...OK, that could be legit. But my gut just wonders...so far I've not been asked to share anything, or send anything...Since my gut is skeptical, I thought I'd post here and see if anyone else has had a similar experience, or does anyone think this is a scam which will lead up to money transferring and so forth?
