WIBTA if I dont give the refund? Am I the dumb one?

My younger brother's a web dev, one of his clients reached out asking to boost a FB post. He usually don't do that so I stepped in for better client relationship. Talked to the client, made a strategy.

Turned out he actually needed a graphic designer. I said fine, I'll design it free, it's a 20-30 min job. Finished it, he approved. Asked for ad access to his Page, he didn't know how, made me come meet him and do it on his phone (skeptical, PC is better for this). Went there, he said font's too small. My laptop wasn't with me so I said I'll edit at home and come back tomorrow.

Next day, set up a Click-To-Call Ad. Default number wasn't theirs so he changed it. Added my temp VISA for payment, an old card from a past campaign was already there, left it, didn't see the harm.

Clicked to launch. FB froze, no loading, nothing worked. Closed app, redid everything, launched again. Few minutes later client says I forgot to switch the number back, ad's live with wrong number. My bad, said it's fixable, but turns out FB won't let you edit ad settings from the app, needs PC.

Pointed to his PC.

"Not logged in there."

"Fine we login, just need password."

"I don't know the password."

Turns out he paid some other guy to make the account, he knows nothing, not the email, not the password. Tried adding my own account as manager thru his phone, still asked for his profile password. Dead end. Said I'll come back tomorrow.

Ad was $5.5/day. That night he calls saying FB cut $10 from their card. Told him that don't make sense, should be $5.5 from MY card, and FB only cuts after 24h not 4-5h. Also they're the ones with access to their card, not me, so how would I know what happened to their money.

He told me come today 7 PM. I texted "heading out now okay?" like I always do so I don't show up when he's suddenly busy. Usually he says "okay come." This time nothing. Waited. Still nothing. Asked again, he said he told me 7 PM why ain't I there, he's waiting.

Had nothing to say, apologized, told him let me know when he's free.

Writing this 2-3h later. Feel terrible, ashamed. Decided to refund the $5.5 myself.

Am I the dumb one here? Am I the asshole?
