Braces a bad idea?

My teeth sit on top of eachother, as your usually supposed to have a slight overbite I’m going to the dentists to see how they could fix this. My guess is through braces, but I heard a lot of bad things about braces in the community and I rlly don’t wanna fuck up my jawline, any thoughts on what to do?
