Is there any way a therapist would report anything I tell them now that I’m an adult?
I really want to talk to a therapist about trauma I went through as a child with family members and people I met online. Also sexual trauma and trauma from past relationships + addiction issues I still struggle with off and on. I have no friends or family to tell. I’ve held certain things in for 12+ years. I just turned 22 so a long time. I feel like it all eats at me everyday to where I can’t grow as a person. A lot of the people that caused trauma for me never faced accountability or it never went anywhere. I never really wanted it to. I wanted to move on and never think about it again but it still haunts me to my core and affects the way I live. I have the biggest fear of talking about things now because I don’t want anything legal to happen now after all this time due to a lot of things people did to me being crimes. Some happened when I was a child and some after I was an adult. I just wanna talk about it all to someone so bad. Is there any way a therapist would report anything I tell them now that I’m an adult? It would make all the trauma so much worse for me because it would bring it back up again after so long. I don’t want people to get in trouble at this point because they probably don’t even remember what they did to me. I don’t want it on my record either. I don’t want it to be sent to my psychiatrist or affect future career opportunities for me. Is there any way I can talk to a therapist anonymously and trust that they won’t tell anybody outside of us? It’s very messed up stuff. I want to learn to live with it and not let it control me.
