Dropwire File sharing
I built a CLI/TUI tool called DropWire. It’s for sending files directly between computers over the local network without uploading to a cloud server first.
Croc is awesome all of know but I wanted to build my own version in Rust and eventually push the architecture further Right now it uses TCPmultiplexing but my roadmap is to rip that out and replace it with QUIC (UDP) for better speeds on bad networks.
I’ll just be honest upfront because I know I might get some hate for this: I used AI to help me build it.
I’ve tried to build this project from scratch 3 or 4 times over the last 6 months I kept failing and getting stuck on the networking logic. So this time, I used AI to help scaffold the base project write the website copy (because I'm terrible at marketing), and format the READMEs and other markdown files some of the test in code are written by ai
AI didn't just magically spit out a million-dollar app for me but it did give me the base I needed to finally get this working after 6 months of failing. I know the code I know how it works and I am the one driving the architecture but its not perfect more things are yet to explore
The project is fully open source (MIT). It is definitely not a finished, perfect product yet, which is why I’m posting here. I am looking for people who understand Rust networking and crypto to look at the code, tell me what I did wrong, and maybe help me make it better.
