Drilling Through glass decorative tile

I want to add a shower column with a handheld showerhead to my master shower. The instructions say that a 1|2" hole needs to be drilled into the tile to hold it. My Plummer is balking a drilling it because he'd have to drill through glass tile. It's one of those decorative strips with glass tiles about 1|2" wide x 2" long. I'm having a difficult time finding a tile guy to come and drill one hole. Should I continue to look for a tile guy or just try to drill the hole myself?
