I have been overthinking about this

I get paid peanuts as I'm a phd student, I helped out my old friend as he was in dire need, about 20% of my stipend. He ghosted me when I started asking my money back. I have started losing trust in people since then, especially close ones. I cannot shake off this feeling at all.
