Why santa muerte?

Hello, I am not very familiar with Santa muerte and all of this is new to me?

1. What made you want to want to worship/work with santa muerte?
2. Has santa muerte been depicted in another way besides a skeleton?
3. What do people who are not catholic and work with santa muerte believe about the afterlife?
