I have tried app timers, Digital Wellbeing, Focus Mode, grayscale, app blockers and all that stuff. The problem is always the same for me that i keep bypassing them.

So I made an Android app called Nightcap.

Instead of blocking apps, locking screen or showing a warning, **it can completely power off the phone at a scheduled time.\***

Not just lock the screen or turn on DND. Actual Android shutdown.

For me, the main use case is bedtime. If I schedule it for 11 PM, my phone shuts down at 11 PM. If I really want to continue scrolling, I have to physically turn it back on, wait for Android to boot, unlock it and then continue.

**That small amount of friction sounds stupid, but it actually changes something.**

Sometimes the extra effort is enough to break that autopilot behavior and I just go to sleep.

I think this can also be useful for:

* People trying to stop late-night doomscrolling
* Students who need the phone completely out of the way during study sessions
* Deep work or distraction-free work blocks
* Gym sessions
* Anyone who knows that normal app blockers are too easy for them to bypass

You can create one-time or repeating schedules, get a warning before shutdown, see a countdown, and cancel if needed. There is also other features you can check in app!

**One important thing though: Nightcap requires Shizuku.**

Android normally does not allow a regular app to shut down your phone automatically. I did not want to require root, so the app uses Shizuku to get the required system-level access through Android's own ADB/Wireless Debugging system. You do not need root and you do not need to connect a PC for normal setup on supported Android versions. The app has a setup guide, but I know Shizuku is still an extra step and this app will probably not be for everyone.

Privacy-wise, I kept it simple: No account, No ads, No analytics, No trackers, No server or backend. Everything stays on your device.

I made this mainly because I wanted a harder-to-bypass digital detox tool for myself. I am curious whether anyone else would actually use something this aggressive, or if most people would prefer a less nuclear option.

**Would genuinely like feedback, especially from people who already use Shizuku, app blockers, Digital Wellbeing, Tasker, or other ways to control phone addiction.**

I built an app that switches off your phone automatically, to stop late night scrolling, or at any time you schedule
