How many FIRE'd folks will be forced back to work?
I get a sense that many folks who recently FIRE'd might not have as a robust plan as they think. Casually talking with some folks in IRL they didn't really stress test their plans. They "accidentally" FIRE'd. They took some time off work (various reasons like health or family care) and because the stock market and housing market has been so hot they didn't bother to re-enter the workforce. So far it's been great. But I can't help think that if the stock market corrects (think like 1987, 2000, 2008) or periods of really high inflation (think 70s) then these folks are going to be really struggling. There have been reports of many seniors who are going back to work due to inflation. These seniors didn't robustly plan their retirements. And I suspect many FIRE'd folks fall into this category too. What do you think? You think many of the FIRE'd folks will be forced back to work if things correct?
