Objectively Distracted
I used to be cultured,
with opinions,
with a brain
I occasionally used.
Then you walked in.
Now famous paintings
can have their moment.
They've survived centuries,
they'll survive
me not looking.
My eyes have other plans.
Past golden frames,
past careful brushstrokes,
past all that history
everyone seems so impressed by,
they settle on you.
Just you.
Standing there.
Doing absolutely nothing.
Blinking.
Breathing.
Existing.
And somehow,
my eyes call it art.
Scientists say
humans are attracted to beauty.
Mine skipped the lecture
and went straight
into research on your face.
No notes.
No conclusions.
Just staring.
Love is ridiculous like that.
It turns coffee or tea
into a five-star event,
and somehow
I'm still watching
when you finally choose.
Maybe that's love:
finding a masterpiece
where everyone else sees
someone simply standing there.
And yes,
I'd still pay for the popcorn.
