New here have a question

So for context ive only ever played 2, TPS, & WL. That being said I liked WL played it with my wife were currently playing through 2 and on the side im playing pre sequel on the handsome collection and I remember people hating the game like blasting it for changing trajectory and making the comedy not work and im enjoying it so far im still low level just running around questing having fun with it but I just remember it got so much hate and was wondering if anyone knew why, or if it was just the sect of players that I was around when I first played them back in the day.
