I hate this part about my culture.
FYI I'm 20M British Pakistani.
I'm engaged and soon to be married.
Wedding / shaddi dates are being confirmed, with it being in early 2027.
It's being prolonged as both families are budgeting / saving.
I put forward my thoughts to my mom, which were to do the registration and Nikkah in November, as being engaged from July until early next year is a bit long.
I just get dismissed, and the convo always ends with her saying "No I don't want it to be like that, I don't want there to be a long gap between Nikka and Shaddi". She won't even consider asking the girls family too.
I absolutely hate this south Asian culture, where it feels like the Shaddi has more importance than the Nikkah.
Am I asking for too much? Need another perspective.
