My aunt (46F) is in an abusive marriage and wants a divorce from her husband (53M), how to proceed?

So my aunt has 3 kids they’re adults but not earning, all of them stay away from home in hostels. Her husband and her are not on speaking terms since last year, he has h*t her in the past and threatened to do the same to her kids in front of them.

He has a history of manic episodes where he curses at her and h*ts her. His family told them to get him psychiatric help as they saw him once when my aunt and her kids were getting ab*sed.

Recently he threatened that he would break everything at home and stuff after coming back from work. My aunt couldn’t put up with any more ab*se and immediately came to stay at my house (we don’t live there currently so her and one of her kids are alone there).

Her husband and his friends are basically h*rassing her and her kid to solve this issue and come back to live with him. But he’s genuinely abusive and I wouldnt want them to suffer any more.

She wants to proceed with a divorce. I want to know how this case could proceed and how long it would take.

I contacted one of my lawyer friends and he has advised that if anyone comes home to h*rass them again, she should call the police. And that she needs to file a DV case to proceed with the divorce. Please tell me your opinions
