2026/08/11
Chunghwa Telecom announced today (August 11th) the signing of a strategic cooperation memorandum with Nokia on AI-RAN (Artificial Intelligence Radio Access Network). Witnessed by Chunghwa Telecom General Manager Lin Rong-ci and Nokia Vice President of Marketing Strategy Steph Delvoye, the two companies will jointly research the integrated application of mobile networks and artificial intelligence technologies, exploring cooperation in AI-RAN technology research, laboratory and field verification, AI computing architecture and platform technologies, and the evolution of next-generation mobile networks. Through a working group, the two parties will gradually conduct technical exchanges and proof-of-concept studies to jointly explore the application potential of AI technology in future mobile networks.
Chunghwa Telecom General Manager Lin Rong-ci stated that AI is rapidly driving the development of global telecommunications network technology, and AI-RAN has become one of the important development directions of the international industry. This collaboration will be based on the principles of openness, pragmatism, and verification, jointly researching and verifying AI-RAN related technologies, AI computing platforms, network architecture evolution, and potential application scenarios of edge inference. It will assess the feasibility of these technologies for network performance, operational efficiency, and future service development, and will continue to monitor international standards and industry development trends as an important reference for Chunghwa Telecom's future network evolution.
Chunghwa Telecom Network Branch General Manager Chia Chung-Yung stated, "AI is rapidly changing the development direction of the global communications industry. In addition to continuously improving transmission performance, future networks will need to possess intelligent, automated, and programmable capabilities. This collaboration with Nokia aims to gain a deeper understanding of the development direction of AI-RAN related technologies through technical exchanges and POC verification, assess the feasibility and applicability of different AI computing architectures, deployment models, and application scenarios, accumulate the technical capabilities required for the future evolution of 5G-Advanced and 6G networks, and continuously provide customers with higher quality and more reliable mobile communication services."
Nokia Taiwan General Manager Hsu Chia-shu emphasized, "AI-RAN is a significant milestone in the evolution of mobile networks and a key technology for moving from 5G-Advanced to Pre-6G and even the 6G era. We are very honored to join hands with Chunghwa Telecom to promote the innovative development of AI-RAN. By combining Nokia's global expertise in wireless network evolution, AI-RAN, network automation, and AI infrastructure with Chunghwa Telecom's strong operational capabilities and service experience in the Taiwan market, we will jointly verify the feasibility of AI-RAN technology, explore innovative application scenarios, and discover future business opportunities. This collaboration will lay an important foundation for future AI-driven smart networks, ushering in a new era of smarter, more efficient, and more innovative networks."
Chunghwa Telecom has long been a leader in the development and early verification of mobile communication technologies in Taiwan, continuously deepening its core capabilities in AI, cloud computing, networks, and digital infrastructure. This collaboration will focus on AI-RAN technology verification, AI computing platform integration, and research into new network architectures.
