I (29NB) broke up with my (37M) boyfriend and I'm kind of regretting it now?
TL;DR - I am bearing the full weight of financial responsibility, as well as my partner doesn't like masc bodies despite me being FTM trans, considered surgery as an option and was told I would *possibly* no longer be attractive to him.
Needing advice, support, and encouragement that I made the right (or wrong) choice to call it quits...
CW(?): Mention of body anatomy parts
There has been some stuff that has been bugging me for a while between us but I finally had the guts to mention it to him and it led me to (sort of) break up with him?
First off, when he was fired from his job in February I told him he could take 3-6 months to figure out what he needs to do to get better for Mental health reasons and I'd support us with my disability payments I get once a month. He was supposed to get Short Term disability but I feel like there was a lack of effort on his end for trying to get it... So he didn't... He also couldn't receive EI (and it'd mess up my disability for me/us as well pretty badly if he did)
Now I don't mind at all supporting him, it didn't bother me until more recently. He says he's been applying for jobs and I trust him, but no one is either hiring and/or calling him for interviews which is frustrating for us both I think. I'm starting to feel the full weight of financial responsibility now... (He says he feels guilty and shitty not being able to pay or have money to pay, I believe that 100%)
I love this man so much, he's my first real adult relationship, and my first real love... So I'm hurting deeply by what I feel was an erratic decision to maybe call it off...
The things that are bugging me, is our financial situation among other things. He isn't attracted to male bodies (or that's what he told me recently) and I am a TransMan... I have had no surgeries but wanted to maybe consider top surgery again after some time of thinking about it ... (He says he doesn't remember saying this, and our most recent conversation he said I'm blowing things out of proportion) But I said I wanted to consider top surgery again, and he said he likes my chest and body the way it is, and I asked if he'd love me less if I got chest surgery... He said "A little yeah"... And then after some silence I just said that it hurts to hear because it would help me feel more at home in my body maybe... He compared it to him cutting his penis off... And I gently said but your penis doesn't bring you discomfort like my chest does for me sometimes... I don't remember the rest of the conversation... Queue to more recently when I told him that it has still been lingering in my mind and hurts to have that bounce around in my brain... He also was telling me how physical attraction is a big thing for him and he likes breasts and my very feminine/female body (despite being on T for 3 years consistently in the past) ((I stopped HRT in 2019 because of Mental health reasons and I was happy with changes/didn't want to balding to happen)) He also said people separate for things like that all the time, one partner transitions, or comes out as a different sexuality/gender and it no longer aligns with the other partner. So break ups happen, he said he doesn't know if he'd still be attracted to me if I got chest surgery, and it'd be a shock to him because he likes my boobs a bunch.
He did say I was blowing things out of proportion but didn't really tell me what he meant by that, and that he was hurt that I decided to end things I guess...
He's not very good with Mental health stuff and I am fairly mentally ill...
I have explained again and again how I just want to talk and be heard, and not be fixed, so all I want him to ever do is just listen when I need to vent if he's okay with it and has the capacity to hear me out...
Gosh I love this man so much... I feel like I regret in a way (unofficially) breaking up with him...
And he feels hurt that I think we may not be so compatible anymore and that I just decided that like I haven't been thinking of all the stuff that's happened that I've quietly tried to let go because I loved him so much, but this has been accumulating over time, and I just stayed quiet which isn't fair to him or to me... There are other things I don't want to discuss here...
I'm at a loss of what to do, needing encouragement, advice, and just general support!
Thanks!
I wanna add I am demisexual so I've known him for about 8 years now, he had a shitty partner before me, and we started out as FWB but I had a crush on him throughout the years before being FWBs, and told him about my crush, we decided on FWBs and then it turned into more because I fell for him more and more and he did for me too... It's been almost 2 years, including one year as FWBs and one year as official partners!
