Raised my rates 40% and kept almost every client. A short monthly report is what made it stick

For years I underpriced everything because I was scared a higher number would send people running. Classic. Finally raised my rates 40% across the board this year, braced for an exodus, and lost almost nobody. One client left, and honestly they were the one who argued over every invoice anyway.

The part I didn't expect: raising the price quietly raised the pressure to prove the value. So the habit I added was a short monthly report to each client. Not a fancy dashboard, just a one-page rundown of what I did, what it moved, and what's next.

That little report did more for retention than anything else I tried. When the higher invoice lands, they've already seen a month of receipts. Nobody's sitting there wondering what they pay me for.

The old me thought the risk lived in the price. The real risk was staying invisible between invoices.

If you've raised your rates, what did you actually do to keep people from flinching at the new number?
