Mirror stuck on a Nikon FE

I just bought my first “real” camera, received it today, pretty excited. I loaded it with 2 LR44 batteries and when I go to test the shutter, my viewfinder just goes black. I take off the lens to see what happened and my mirror is stuck in the up position.

I wonder if it’s an electrical problem since the light meter also didn‘t seem to be working, but the battery check light turns on just fine. So maybe it’s not that

If anyone has any suggestions I’d really appreciate it. Was planning to shooting some film today but I guess that‘ll have to wait
