Google has become genuinely terrible at the one thing it was supposed to be good at

I swear searching for something used to be simple.

You typed in a question and got websites that actually had something to do with it.

Now I search for the most basic thing and get ads, sponsored shops, SEO articles containing 900 words of absolute nothing, another shopping section, some AI generated garbage and eventually a Reddit thread from six years ago where some random guy called u/BigChungus420 actually answers my question.

The funniest part is that I've started automatically adding "reddit" to searches because actual human beings discussing something are often more useful than the websites Google gives me.

How did the world's biggest search engine get to the point where one of the best ways to use it is asking it to search another website?
