Why doesn't apple change the design of the iphone much?

I have to imagine part of thair marketing strategy is fomo and people showing off. People thinking they are missing out on the new greatest iphone and people wanting to show that they do have the latest and greatest. Yet the last few generations before the 17 were almost mutually unintelligible. Why so?
