Hi everyone,

I’ve released an early version of Better Injury System, a mod that expands Battle Brothers’ injury system while trying to remain consistent with the tone and structure of the base game.

Injuries can now develop into longer stories rather than remaining isolated stat penalties. Untreated wounds may become infected, deteriorate through multiple stages, require difficult treatment decisions, or leave permanent consequences.

Current features include:

Expanded temporary and permanent injury mechanics

Location-aware injuries, including left/right limb distinctions

Wound infection, deep infection, gangrene and critical deterioration

Aggressive treatment, conservative care and untreated outcomes

Treatment candidates selected according to backgrounds, followers and skills

Amputation, lasting scars, impaired limbs and other permanent consequences

Improved interactions between permanent injuries, missing body parts, equipment slots and prosthetics

Reworked injury severity and tooltip presentation

Additional mechanics and events for the Cripple origin

Support for Vanilla, Legends and Reforged

English and Chinese versions

The event system considers the injury itself. Burns, punctures, crushed limbs and internal wounds can produce different descriptions and treatment procedures. Brothers with suitable experience—such as surgeons, anatomists, butchers or anyone with Field Triage—may become involved. If nobody qualified is available, another brother may have to attempt the procedure, or the injured character may be forced to treat himself.

The goal is not to turn Battle Brothers into a medical simulator. I want injuries to create memorable decisions and lasting consequences while still feeling like a natural part of the game.

Important notice

This mod is still in an early stage of development. It contains many new and interconnected systems, so bugs, balance problems, incorrect interactions and compatibility issues should be expected.

The English version currently relies heavily on machine translation. Some descriptions may sound unnatural, use inconsistent terminology, or fail to match the original style of Battle Brothers. I cannot properly improve all of this without help from English-speaking players.

Please report:

Bugs and script errors

Incorrect or missing injury effects

Events that do not match their actual outcomes

Unnatural or confusing English text

Terminology inconsistent with the base game

Compatibility problems with Vanilla, Legends, Reforged or other mods

When reporting a problem, screenshots and the relevant section of log.html are extremely helpful. Suggestions for improved English wording are also very welcome.

Planned development includes:

More injury-specific event branches

Greater participation from character backgrounds

Additional choices for existing injury events

Further development of the Cripple origin and its event chain

Continued compatibility, balance and localization work

Thank you to everyone willing to test the mod and help improve it. At this stage, player feedback is an important part of its development.
