I built an open-source AirDrop alternative for iOS ↔ Android ↔ Windows ↔ Mac
I've always found it strange that sending a file between my own devices can still be annoying when they're not all in the Apple ecosystem.
AirDrop is great — but once Android or Windows enters the picture, things get complicated.
So I built BIShare.
What it does:
• iPhone ↔ Android
• iPhone ↔ Windows
• iPhone ↔ Mac
• Android ↔ Windows
• macOS ↔ Windows
• Local P2P transfers when devices are nearby
• Remote sharing through encrypted links / QR codes
• No account required
• Up to 2 GB per file on the web
• Cross-platform
And the part I really want developers here to look at:
It's open source.
The app is built with Flutter + Rust, and the source code is available under the MIT License:
https://github.com/BIShare-project/bishare-flutter
I'm not trying to claim this is "better than LocalSend" or "better than AirDrop" yet. Those are mature projects with much larger communities.
I'm interested in figuring out what BIShare should actually become.
So I'd genuinely like some criticism:
If you already use AirDrop, LocalSend, PairDrop, or another file-sharing app, what is the one thing you wish it did better?
Speed?
Discovery?
Remote transfers?
Privacy?
UX?
iOS limitations?
Something else?
I'd especially appreciate feedback from people who regularly move files between Apple and non-Apple devices.
Try it, inspect the code, break it, tell me what sucks. 😄
