Is SCOTUS balanced or corrupt ?

In my country (UK) if a member of the SC were to make a habit accepting "freebies" they would not be in post for long. I believe that lifetime appointments are just inherently wrong. Here there is a mandatory retirement age of 75. Should that not apply to SCOTUS ? Tell me what you think please.
