AITAH for giving a months notice?
\*also posted on another page\*
Hello there, I’m seeking advice about a situation. I have been a nanny with this family for almost 3 years now after leaving my corporate job. I connected with the family and started working for them in just under a months time. I started working for them when the child was 3 months old, she will be turning 3 next month. I have decided after years of childcare that I personally don’t want this to be my entire life. I want children of my own someday and can already feel my spark for taking care of littles leaving. It’s really important to me that when the time comes I can be the best mother for my babies, and working in childcare I am hitting my burnout. (for context I previously worked in a daycare for 2 years before my corporate job) In december of last year I decided that I really could see myself thriving in Cosmetology. I have a passion for it and decided to start school. I have all of my ducks in a row the last thing to do is to inform my nanny family that I will be resigning. I start cosmetology school mid October, I wanted to give them plenty of time but I also still need to be employed until school starts. I do not live with my parents and am fully paying bills by myself so it would be a really bad situation to get replaced too early and be out of a source of income. I do plan to get a different job once school starts up on my off days but my current work schedule would not mesh with my school schedule. I would also like to add that one month prior to me starting school lands on the child birthday. I never signed any contract with the family stating that I’d work with them for and certain amount of time. That leads me to the question AITA for giving them one months notice? Will there be enough time for them to replace me, I’m really hoping to leave on good terms. Any advice on how to approach this conversation with the parents? Ultimately I just hope they understand that this is what I need for myself and my future.
Important notes I’ve never been in a situation where I have to sit down a quit with a conversation, I’ve always written resignation letters.
This is also my first nannying job so I’m not sure the proper process of resignation.
I also have quite alot of anxiety so it does make me really nervous the thought of having to sit them down and tell them I’ve decided to leave. Any advice is greatly appreciated!
